Build 2 Lead strives to provide its students with engaging educational experiences and there are few experiences as impactful as field trips. They provide students with a front-row seat to real-world scenarios, allowing them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
On August 11th our Gamechangers received a warm welcome to Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Seattle. A partner in our P.O.W.E.R Partner Committee VMFH created a special agenda for B2L youth and entitled the day “Imagine ME.”
Operating Room Tour
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the operating room. With sanitized gowns and masks, students heard from BIPOC healthcare workers as they discussed the various procedures that take place, the tools used, and the day-to-day operations.
Conversations with Healthcare Professionals
The heart of the trip lay in the interactions with healthcare professionals. In an enlightening panel discussion, BIPOC healthcare workers shared their professional journeys and day-to-day responsibilities. This candid insight into their lives allowed students to understand the diverse career opportunities within the healthcare sector.
Hospital, Imaging, and Research Institute Tour
B2L youth were given a tour of the imaging department getting a glimpse of the equipment used to make diagnoses—MRI machines, X-ray equipment, and more. They also toured the Benaroya Research institute, getting a sneak peek into the fascinating world of medical discovery.
It was a full and exciting day!
A huge shoutout to Najmah Messiah and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health for providing this opportunity and coordinating everything! Thank you to all the staff, Doctors, Nurses, and Clinicians at VMFH for your words of wisdom, kindness, and continued advocacy and commitment to Build 2 Lead!
